This work is a concrete response to the Truth and Reconciliation’s 94 ‘Calls to Action’ bringing together Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples to engage in meaningful conversation and interaction in a true spirit of reconciliation. Winnipeg Presbytery of the United Church of Canada, representing all of the United Church congregations in Winnipeg, is pleased to provide this letter of endorsement with regard to the work of “Circles for Reconciliation”.
The partnership between Indigenous and non-Indigenous persons to organize a community based approach to effect reconciliation is exemplary. Several of our Winnipeg congregations are already involved in the ‘Circles for Reconciliation’ process and others are preparing to do so.
We trust that potential funders will recognize this approach and provide support. We also pray that you will find success in having many organizations willing to engage in the “Circles for Reconciliation” process.
We were pleased to be able to participate in a Circle focussing on “The Pass System” at a recent Presbytery meeting. It was a meaningful activity and full of surprises since many of our Presbytery reps were unfamiliar with the system which so profoundly affected out Indigenous people.
Once again we are pleased to be able to support this initiative and we pray for God’s blessing on this work.
Yours in Christ,
Linda Paul
Presbytery Secretary
